Free Eye Test In Scotland
It was announced in 2006 that everyone living in Scotland would recive a free eye test through the NHS
Changes to the eye test:
- The traditional NHS sight test has been replaced by a comprehensive eye test.
- The new NHS eye test is not just an eye test for spectacles but an eye health assessment, appropriate to patients needs and presenting signs and symptoms.
- The new test is free to all patients where as before certain categories of patients were required to pay.
As well as a free eye test, you may also be entitled to some help with the purchase of glasses or contact lenses, if you are:
- Under 16 or under 19 and still in full time education
- In need of complex lenses
- Receiving Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Working Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit (and are named on a NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate)
- You are named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate
