Visual Impairment Ayrshire

Since it was formed in 2001, Visual Impairment Ayrshire has consistently promoted the needs of blind and partially sighted people in this part of Scotland. It has raised awareness of the impact of serious sight loss on people who are directly affected and others who are closely involved with them.

It has alerted NHS Ayrshire & Arran to the emotional needs of blind and partially sighted patients, resulting in greater caring for people. It has positively influenced Local Authority Social Services and Planning Departments. It has influenced Scottish, Westminster and European Parliaments e.g. from 2010, all information about medicines will be available in Audio, Braille and large print.

It has encouraged and supported people with serious sight loss in their efforts to live full and active lives. It has shown how much they can do for themselves and also for others.
